My name is Reina Morales, I live in San Bernardino. I have 5 years living in Colton and I am a street vendor who sells corn but I mostly travel to Hesperia every day to sell.

Many years ago, my parents came to this country and began to sell corn but my mother had a stroke about 4 years ago. My father passed away and I started selling corn again. My whole family is dedicated to selling corn: cousins, uncles, almost all of us are dedicated to this business for many years but with the pandemic it has been difficult to adapt with my job and help my children with school because I hardly speak English. I cannot help them with the computer because it is very difficult for me to teach them.

I have a brother who is also a walking street vendor. He was assaulted and they beat him, he had a purple eye. The police arrived and the ambulance took him to the hospital. Then my cousin last year was also assaulted and  beaten, he was also taken to the hospital because they hit his head and they made him a story in Victor Valley News.

It has been difficult due to the pandemic because people are also afraid to go out. Not everyone goes out the same way as people did before, since they were a little scared. At the beginning stage, sales were lower because people were afraid to go out and buy. Right now it’s a little better, but at first I was also scared, I would drive around in my car and I wouldn’t come out. But the good thing that, thanks to God, my husband has been working and the pandemic wasn’t as bad for us, but it does give a little bit of fear knowing that many people gotten sick and died and that would scare me too.
